Third king of
Vishnukund dynasty. Expanded kingdom on both sides of Sriparvatha / Vijayapuri
/ Nagarjuna Sagar.
Occupied upto
river Gundlakamma by defeating Pallavas.
Married the
princess of a local chief Mularaja of Gunapasa puram, in Coastal Andhra. With
the help of Mularaja, Govinda Varma defeated Salakayanas of Vengi and annexed
their kingdom to his kingdom.
The areas on the
other side of river Musi were parts of his kingdom. Sources: stone inscriptions
of his time at Chathanyapuri, Hyderabad. Vishnukund fort and temple remains on
Keesaragutta, Hyderabad. There is Kesari Vagu (stream) below Keesarigutta /
Kesarigutta / Kesari hill. The area on the bank of Kesari Vagu is Gattu Kesari
/ present day Ghatsear, Hyderabad.
Kesari means
lion. Lion is the emblem of Vishnukunds. To attest this one royal seal found at
Keesaragutta.
