Komatlu is a Telugu word for Vaishyas / Vysyas / Baniya / Chettiyar.
Komatlu / Komatollu emerged from the word 'Gomatlu'. During the ancient times majority of the Vaishyas were the followers of Jainism or the followers of Jainism adopted business as their profession as there is no room for violence / himsa in business. Some Jains were the followers of Gomateshwara cult. Gomateshwara is a guru. As they were the worshipers of 'Gomateshwara', they came to be called Gomatlu. Over a period of time the word Gomatlu became Komatlu. Though Jainism disappeared from South India, and the Komatlu started following Hinduism, the Vaishyas are still called Komatlu.
This theory was propounded by eminent historians like C. Dwarakanath Gupta, Jaisetty Ramanaiah and B.S.L. Hanumantha Rao.

ధక్షిణ భారతదేశం నుండి జైనమతం కనుమరుగై కోమట్లు హిందూ మతారాధకులుగా మారినా వారిని ఇంకా కోమట్లుగానే పిలుస్తున్నారు.
