Satakarni


Satakarni 198B.C.-179B.C.
Son of Srimukha.
Satakarni was the 3rd ruler in Satavahana Dynasty.
Nanaghat inscription praises him.
Nanaghat inscription is in Prakrit language and inscribed by his wife Naganika.
His titles - Dakshinapadapathi, Ekaveera, Shoora, Aprathihatachakra.
Puranas praised him as Mahan and Mallakarna.


His contemporaries are - 1. Pushyamitra Sunga of Sunga dynasty. Ruler of Magadha.
2. Kharavela -  Ruler of Kalinga (Present day Orissa / Odisha.)
Satakarni was defeated by Kharavela. (This information is mentioned in Hathigumpa and Gantupalli inscriptions).

Satakarni occupied Vidarbha and performed Ashvamedha Yaga.
Totally he performed 2 Ashvamedha Yagas and 1 Rajasuya Yaga.

His kingdom is extended upto river Thungabadhra in South.

Minted coins with the symbol of Ujjain city and Elephant.
