Jaswant Singh The Rathor ruler of Marwar (Jodhpur—capital), he was
sent
against Aurangzeb by Shah Jahan in the war of succession, but was
defeated in
the battle of Dharmat near Ujjain (1658). Later he was pardoned
by
Aurangzeb who retained him in Mughal service. While serving in the
northwest
he passed away in 1678. and his followers raised a banner of revolt
against
Aurangzeb due to the latter’s refusal to recognize the posthumous son
(Ajit
Singh) of Jaswant as the legal heir.
