Sanga, Rana The ruler of Mewar (1509–29) and son of Rayamala, he was
the
greatest warrior of India in his time. Expecting Babur to imitate Timur, he
extended an
invitation to him, but his calculations did not materialize. So the
Rajputs
under his leadership met the force of Babur in the battle of Khanwa
(1527), but
were routed despite their numerical superiority. Sanga who
escaped
with injuries is said to have been killed by his own sardars when he
wanted to
fight Babur for a second time.
