Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan
Popularly
known as the ‘Frontier Gandhi’, he was a prominent
nationalist leader of the North-western Frontier Province, and founded a nationalist
organisation, called the ‘Khudai Khidmatgars’ (Servants
of God), popularly referred to as the ‘Red Shirts’. He began a movement
for ‘Pakhttoonistan’ in post-independent Pakistan, for which he was
imprisoned by the Pakistani government. Awarded the ‘Bharat Ratna’ award
posthumously by the Indian government.
