Francis, Sir
Philip Named by
the Regulating Act as one of the four
members of
the Governor General’s Council, he ganged up with Monson and
Clavering
in opposing Warren Hastings in his whole policy and method of
government.
Ultimately he fought a gun battle with Hastings (1780), was
disabled
and went back to England where he took a prominent part in
organising
and conducting the impeachment of Hastings.
