Forde, Colonel
A talented English military officer, he
defeated the French
in the
battle of Chandurthi (1759) and captured Masulipatnam, thus ending
the French
control over the Northern Circars. Later in the same year he
defeated
the Dutch in the battle of Bedera which ended Dutch pretensions in
Bengal
