Gulbadan Begum


Gulbadan Begum A daughter of Babur, she was a talented lady and wrote
Humayan Namah, an authoritative account of the reign of her brother,
Humayun.

Ghulam HussainKhan

Ghulam Hussain Khan A famous historian of Bengal during the later
Mughal period, he was the author of Siyar-ul-Mutakherim, an authoritative
and reliable account of the decline of the Mughal empire (which also traces
the progress of the English in Bengal up to 1780).

Ghosh Rashbehari


Ghosh, Rashbehari A leading lawyer of Calcutta, he was elected president
of the Surat Session of the INC (1907) which ended with the split of the
Congress. Next year (1908) he presided over the Madras Session of the
moderate INC.

Gangu


Gangu A Brahmin astrologer, he was (according to Ferishta) the master of
Hasan and foretold the future greatness of the founder of the Bahmani
kingdom.

Francis Sir Philip


Francis, Sir Philip Named by the Regulating Act as one of the four
members of the Governor General’s Council, he ganged up with Monson and
Clavering in opposing Warren Hastings in his whole policy and method of
government. Ultimately he fought a gun battle with Hastings (1780), was
disabled and went back to England where he took a prominent part in
organising and conducting the impeachment of Hastings.

Forde Colonel


Forde, Colonel A talented English military officer, he defeated the French
in the battle of Chandurthi (1759) and captured Masulipatnam, thus ending
the French control over the Northern Circars. Later in the same year he
defeated the Dutch in the battle of Bedera which ended Dutch pretensions in
Bengal
